Two topics, one story.
This brings me back to my history class. The time that we were under martial law. Not the martial law era itself, but rather the late-martial law days. Where the intense battle between the Aquino's and the Marco's for the presidency started during those late-martial law days.
During those days, the Filipino people had been so anxious about their condition. They lived with it for two decades. A lot has suffered under the regime of a "dictator". Twenty years of hardship and suffering. Several number of people had been imprisoned, some slain. One of the most controversial man that was imprisoned was Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino. He was exiled during the martial law, and when he was ordered to return to the country, he was shot dead even before his foot lands on his own country.
That ignited the people to revolt, thus the most historic revolution was written in history. The bloodless people power EDSA Revolution.
After the EDSA revolution, the late former president Corazon "Cory" Aquino became the president and democracy was returned to the Philippines.
Analyzing the history and what is happening now in the Philippines, we were under dictatorship in the past. Now, we are under a so-called dictator president for the last (almost) ten years.
After the 20 years of Martial Law days, there was a snap election. The candidates for election were Aquino and Marcos. Now, we might have a candidate name Aquino and Marcos.
During the martial law, our economy was going down. During these past ten years, our economy is going down.
During and/or after the martial law, there were lots of ill-gotten wealth from the Marcos' that came out in the news. Now, there had been several reports of unexplained wealth from our current administration, particularly pertaining to the "first family". (Mikey: Wealth came from gifts) (Arroyos still need to explain wealth rise, says lawmaker)
During the martial law, a lot of foreign political visitors visit the Philippines. Now, reports say that the presidents had been visiting foreign countries.
Now, election is fast-approaching. We had mistakes. Mistakes on who to elect or who to choose as our leader. We should have learned from it. We should now by now who is the correct and who is "really" worthy of our precious VOTES. It is so precious that it should never be sold, and also it cannot be bought.
Hindi pa ba tayo sawa sa maling mga tao na napapaupo sa pwesto?
Let's hope that after the coming election, we will have a rightful leader that will lead us right this time. Let's hope that history will not repeat itself.
